JESSICA HARRISON

Diplômée d’un PhD en sculpture au Edinburgh College of Art (2007-2013). Vit et travaille à Edinburg, Ecosse.

Jessica Harrison (née en 1982) vit à Edinburgh en Écosse depuis qu’elle y a emménagé pour étudier la sculpture en 2000 au College of Art, des études aboutissant à un PhD en sculpture soutenu en 2013 et subventionné par le Arts and Humanities Research Council. Si le point de départ de chacune de ses séries est toujours différent, toutes prennent une suite logique dans un projet de recherche à plus grande échelle sur la «tactilité» et le corps dans la sculpture. Ses oeuvres traduisent sa fascination pour le corps humain (son mémoire de Master portait sur la mort et la dissection dans l’art contemporain britannique), l’impossibilité de ce dernier à résister à plus de 100 ans et la crainte omniprésente quant à la mortalité dans notre société. Les images que Jessica utilise sont le fruit de curiosités vues et recueillies à travers son imaginaire. C’est en prenant l’habitude de regarder la collection de céramiques de sa mère et en imaginant abattre une tête par ci, un bras par là, et ce que cela donnerait si tout se mettait à saigner, qu’elle s’est mise à transformer des figurines en porcelaine de bergères ou de jeunes filles un brin kitsch, en les estropiant d’un oeil, d’un organe, devenant une petite armée de morts-vivantes gores.
